An afternoon with Nathan.
Nathan is more than a choreographer, producer, and dog dad extraordinaire. He is one of the most talented, passionate, and exuberantly joyful humans out there.
If you are a theater goer, you have likely seen him on stage in Kinky Boots, Wicked, La Cage, and The Boy from Oz to name just a few.
Nathan was kind enough to share an afternoon with me. At the time, he was Dance Captain at Kinky Boots and was recovering from a dance injury. So starting our day at STEPS dance studio felt very poignant. Any actor that has ever been put on vocal rest or forced to rest due to an injury, knows that this time is so frustrating to not be able to express yourself on that stage. It very much pales in comparison to a football player watching the game on the sidelines. You cheer on your team, but you contemplate life on the sidelines. Nathan spoke about pursuing his passion for architectural photography and perhaps transitioning into the roles of choreographer and director.
We left STEPS and headed to his adorable apt on the Upper West Side. Here we were able to play, laugh and chat and really capture the essence of his personality. Nathan is highly intelligent, quick witted, and so much fun to just be around. You will find yourself smiling after being in his presence.
Nathan is currently teaching at Pace University. You can see more of his photography on his instagram @neefash. Months after this photoshoot, Nathan lost his little pup Banjo (as seen in the photos) but is now a proud dad to Jolene.
I guess it is time for another photoshoot to capture those puppy moments with Jolene.
